Zion Mennonite has been donating food for the past 3 months to a project called Kids 4 Food.  Area churches near Whitewater have been packing food bags for meals for children in the Whitewater/Potwin area this summer.  Zion's week to donate food and pack the food bags was the week of June 17.  Members of the congregation have been donating food such as fruit, granola bars, pudding, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti-o's, ravioli, vienna sausages, peanut butter, jelly, bread, etc.  On June 17, the food was delivered.  55 bags of food for individual children, along with 22 family bags were delivered to the Federated church in Whitewater.  Zion donated extra peanut butter, cereal, pudding, fruit, and cereal to be distributed among the children on a week when it would be needed.

Zion Mennonite year of the Bible kick off report
Zion Mennonite, Elbing, KS had an exciting kick-off to the year of the Bible on Sunday, June 9 at East Lake shelter. As people gathered they were encouraged to write a Bible verse or story that had meaning for them (we alllowed up to 5) on a sticky note which was then placed on our Bible time line (creatively designed with the books of the Bible arranged by sections, ie, law, writings, prophets, gospels, etc).  After a gathering song (Praise Him, Praise him) and welcome, the children led the congregation in the BIBLE song by holding up signs with the letters printed on them.  The youth lead a call to worship entitled "The Bible - who reads it, who needs it"  (a corny reading with too much truth to it.)  After singing "I love to tell the story" Sunday school classes of all ages acted out a Bible story for the rest to guess.  We "heard" acted out Noah's Ark with almost real animals, Peter attempting to walk on water, the Tower of Babel, Jesus' temptations, and the prophet Elisha being laughed at.  There are some good actors at Zion, watch out Broadway!  Pastor Rosie shared about the Israelites' return to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile and not only rebuilding the city and temple, but needing to relearn and rediscover the Law, citing Nehemiah 8. Our final interactive event was a Bible quiz game where the congregation divided into three teams to answer Bible questions in five categories: People, places, things, parables, misc.  We managed to stump everyone with the question: Who hid in a cave with 100 prophets?  Of course the morning ended with a great potluck lunch.  See photos on Zion's facebook page and on this site.
