Zion Participates in Faith in Action Day Sept. 25, 2011 |

For the second year, Zion Mennonite Church participated in Faith in Action Sunday. It is a Sunday set aside to serve our local neighbors and agencies and then come together for a late afternoon time of worship and celebration. Regular Sunday morning services were canceled exchanged for a day of spreading into the community with various projects.
Faith Mennonite Church of Newton began this activity in 2008 and Zion joined them in 2010. This year, joining Faith and Zion churches was Iglesia Menonnita Casa Betania of Newton.
The goals of Faith in Action Sunday are:
- To carry out Jesus' ministry and call to care for our brothers and sisters
- Inspire action by changing our routine and focus to "others" instead of "ourselves"
- Raise awareness of local, national and global needs
- Create unity and spiritual commitment as church members work side by side
- Help every person realize that they can make a difference
- Build relationships between churches and community organizations
- Share God's love in a tangible way
Some of the projects included house painting, yard clean-up, home repair, working at the Harvey County Homeless Shelter and Domestic Violence Safe House, Mennonite Central Committee, visiting and praying with residents at nursing homes, helping with projects for local elementary schools and more.
We had a wonderful day on September 25, 2011. It was a good time to meet neighbors in our communities and between our churches. There were around 50 people from Zion who participated among the approximately 180 total.

June 26 was Zion's Annual Sunday School Picnic. It was a celebration of our friendship with God and each other. Here is a sampling of pictures from the worship service, fellowship meal and the scholarship dessert auction that all took place on June 26.

The youth group camped out at East Lake on July 25-26 in anticipation of the Church wide Sunday School picnic on Sunday the 26th at East Lake. It was a fun evening of storytelling, creativity, laughing, bonding and sleeping under the stars.
